Cracking the WPC RTR(A) Exam: Part 1 and Part 2 Strategy
The Radio Telephony Restricted (Aero) license is often considered the hardest exam for Indian pilots. This guide demystifies the WPC examination process, transmission techniques, and route charts.
The Fear Factor
The RTR exam is unique because it is a viva (oral) exam. You are tested on your ability to communicate clearly and confidently under pressure.
Part 1: Transmission
You will be given a simulated flight scenario. You must communicate with ATC for startup, taxi, takeoff, and emergencies. Speed is less important than clarity and standard phraseology.
Part 2: Oral Viva
The examiner will test your technical knowledge of radio waves, transponders, and regulations. Be prepared to explain how a VOR works or what happens during a communication failure.
